Major Don Woodruff was born in Georgia and has lived in Georgia all of his life.
After being honorably discharged from the United States Navy, he graduated from Georgia State University in 1976. Entering law enforcement in 1977, he graduated from the police academy earning the Academic Trophy in his class.
Major Woodruff joined the City of Duluth Police Department in 1989; and has served as division commander of the Uniform Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division and Support Services Division. Currently, Major Woodruff is the Division Commander of the Office of Professional Standards; which includes: Training, Pre-Employment Investigations, Media Relations, Internal Affairs, and Research and Development of departmental policy. Major Woodruff earned a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia Southern University in 2002 and is certified by Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training as a Master Instructor.
