Applications for building permits are required to be submitted for installations regulated by the Georgia State Minimum Building Codes if any owner or authorized agents intends to:
Construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building or structure;
Erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert, or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing system.
Most construction work done within the City requires a permit from the Planning and Development Department and the corresponding required inspections by the Building Official from beginning of construction to issuance of a certificate of occupancy.
Many citizens contact our Department inquiring about when a residential building permit is required. The “rule of thumb” is that a building permit is required if you are modifying or adding to an existing structure.
If you have any questions please contact the City's Building Official, Joe Stapleton or Carol Hill. Forms and Permits Use the search bar below, or the grey document center, to download and view various forms and applications necessary to obtain a permit.
