Occupational Tax

Hot Off The Press:

In an effort to provide a more user-friendly experience and a new digital platform, our licensing division (Occupational Tax/Business License and Alcohol Licensing) will be undergoing a software conversion and will be unable to accept applications for new licenses or perform payment processing from August 21-August 31, 2020. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive online experience for new and existing business owners. We anticipate service to resume on September 1.

As a reminder, a courtesy extension for 2020 renewals was granted to businesses through June 30, 2020. Any business now operating without a current license is in violation of City ordinances. Businesses that have not renewed prior to August 20 will be deactivated on August 21.

The City of Duluth welcomes your business to our community. Every business in the City must apply for an Occupational Tax Certificate and renew it annually.

The annual license expires on January 30 of each year.  There is a payment grace period until April 30, but the renewal paperwork is now overdue. 

Renewal letters for 2020 Occupational Tax Certificates were mailed by December 31.  For your convenience, fillable forms are available online for the 2020 renewal season. To help you navigate the forms, use your mouse to hover over a field for tips on what type of information to fill in. Once complete, the forms need to be printed, signed and notarized* (see above) prior to submission by mail or in person. Directions to City Hall are here
