1. Collection pick-up
Collection of residential refuse will be on Wednesday of each week. It is the
responsibility of each resident to place such garbage or refuse at the curbside
no later than 7:00 a.m. on that day. Residential pick up may be done as early as
7:30 a.m. and as late as 7:30 p.m.
Robertson Sanitation/United Waste Services, Inc. prefers that you do not use cans, containers, or other units to hold
bags. However, if you insist, use only Robertson Sanitation bags place inside
the container. Leave the lid off so the bags may be clearly seem. Do not tie the
bag to the container. If you do use a special container, the City of Duluth
cannot guarantee that your garbage will be picked up, since this is not part of
the City's contract.
2. Robertson Sanitation Plastic Bags
Only refuse placed in the specially marked bags (Robertson Sanitation/United Waste Services, Inc.) sold by the City of Duluth as provided by Robertson Sanitation/United Waste Services, Inc., the contractor for the City, will be picked up by the contractor. These bags will be of high strength with a 32 gallon capacity.
The bags can be purchased ($26.27) at:
- Duluth City Hall - second floor, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM;
- Kroger @ Peachtree Hill Shopping Center at 3455 Peachtree Industrial.
- Kroger on Pleasant Hill Rd (near Satellite Blvd).
- Kroger in Suwanee @ Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and McGinnis Ferry Road.
- Publix @ Medlock Crossing on State Bridge Road in Duluth.
- Publix @ Duluth Station at 2750 Buford Highway.
- Ace Hardware @ 2780 Buford Highway in Duluth.
- Publix @ Tree Summit Shopping Center at 3870 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.
There are 20 bags in each box. You will not be billed any additional cost for garbage pick-up.
Robertson Sanitation/United Waste Services, Inc. is the exclusive contractor for the City. They are responsible for collecting the following items:
- Household garbage and waste defined as typical household garbage. All garbage, trash and waste must be placed in the specially marked bags and must weigh less than 50 pounds each.
- Broken-down cardboard boxes, such as moving boxes. These do not need a bag attached, just place it with your other garbage at the side of the road. (If you wish to recycle your cardboard boxes, they may be disposed of at the City Public Works Complex during regular dumpster hours, your dumpster card will be required)
- Bulk items weighing more than 50 lbs. may be arranged for pick up if placed at the curb with a specially marked bag attached. Please call Robertson Sanitation/United Waste Services, Inc. at 770.867.4367 to arrange for pick up. There may be a nominal charge for pick, or you may take these bulk items to the City Maintenance Facility free of charge. Large bulk items "White good" include refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, water heaters, mattresses, etc.
- Corrugated cardboard may be picked up at curbside if flattened into small manageable bundles not to exceed 1' x 2' x 4'. Do not use the cardboard as a container for trash. Place bundle next to recycling bin. Please note: If cardboard is flattened and placed at curbside, it will not be recycled but will enter the residential solid waste stream. Corrugated cardboard may be recycled if taken to the City Maintenance Facility during regular dumping days. Your dumpster card will be required.
- Now offering curbside pickup of yard debris! Curbside pickup is now available each Wednesday for up to 10 recyclable bags of yard waste, bundles of branches that are no more than 5 ft long and 2” in diameter and weigh no more than 50 lbs. United charges a yearly fee of $85.00 for this service. For more information or to sign up, please call United Waste at 770-867-4367.
The service does not include the disposal of such items as dead animals, building or remodeling debris, automobile parts, tires or accessories, trees, hazardous wastes or any item weighing more than 50 lbs., or any items that cannot be safely compacted in a standard residential truck.
Yard trimming (leaves, clipped grass, limbs, etc.) are no longer accepted in lined sanitary land fills. Yard trimmings may be disposed of at the Dumpsters at the City Public Works Facility. All grass, leaves, pine straw, hay, etc must be in brown recyclable paper lawn bags to be accepted. Dumpster Card is required.
If you experience any problem with cats, dogs, raccoons, opossums, or other animals breaking into your trash at the curb, try misting the bag with an ammonia mixture. This rarely occurs, but when it does, ammonia usually solves the problem.

The City of Duluth provides dumpsters at the City Public Works Complex for
bulky
items that cannot be placed inside of the Robertson bags.
A Dumpster Punch Card is required to use the Dumpsters. To find out how to get
