Zoning
The Department is charged with the responsibility of enforcing the Zoning
Ordinance set forth by the Mayor and Council. Complaints are investigated by our
field inspectors including drainage, junked vehicles, trash or dumping,
overgrown properties, outdoor storage, burning on construction sites, businesses
being run out of the home, signs, building code violations or building without
an approved permit, and many more.
Complaints
The recently adopted Property Maintenance Ordinance requires property owners to
maintain their property and homes. The ordinance requires maintenance of
painting, gutters, roof, lawn, and more.
Noise complaints must be reported to the Duluth Police Department for enforcement at 770-476-4151.
A Complaint Form may be filled out and electronically sent, or you can e-mail any complaint to City Hall and the will investigate the complaint(s) and get back to you within three days.
Sub-Standard Housing
Any complaints from a citizen, tenant, etc., about a sub-standard structure will
be checked by the inspector. If warranted, a checklist of the repairs needed
will be mailed to the property owner with a stated deadline for completion.
911 Addressing
All of Gwinnett County now operates under a 911 address system through an
extensive computer system. All new address, new roads, and recorded subdivision
plats are entered into the system. This information is provided to the 911
emergency center by the City of Duluth when new plats are filed. Street numbers
must be posted on each structure and visible from the road, per Section 1002.6
of the Duluth Sign Ordinance. New addresses are assigned by Gwinnett County
Development Services, 770-822-7533.
