Records Department

 

The City of Duluth Police Department Records Division maintains all police department records, with the exception of personnel records. The Records Division is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

 

The Records Department is dedicated to providing the highest quality customer service to the public and to the City of Duluth.

It is the mission of the Records Department to ensure accuracy in providing a variety of different documents and reports to the public. We strive to achieve the highest standards of organization, so that records can be made available for inspection and copying.

Records are subject to records retention schedules, as set by Statutes.

Costs of Services:

Criminal Histories: Monday - Friday (8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) The cost is $15.00 for the first copy and $2.00 for each additional copy. *If additional copies are requested, you must fill out the forms in duplicate so that each is an "original".

If you are a business or corporation with the need to run several criminal histories, you can become a client, which entitles you to a lower cost per criminal history and other options for receiving the information.  For information about becoming a client, or to renew your existing client contract, please click on the following link: Criminal History Client

Fingerprints: Monday - Friday (9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.) and (2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.) The cost is $10.00 per card for the first two cards and $2.00 for each additional copy. Expungements: $25.00. Go to  http://gbi.georgia.gov  for an expungement application. You will need to fill out, and bring the application to the agency that arrested you on the charge you would like to have expunged.  Please direct any questions about expungements to Jessica Lake at (770) 623-2771. 

Letter of Good Conduct: Sandy York $20.00.

Open Records: $0.10 per page, and the hourly rate for technician performing request.

Police Clearance Letter: $20.00.

Accident Reports: $5.00 per copy. (*Free, if named in report)
Incident Reports: $.10 per page (*Free, if named in report)
Video: $10.00
911 Tapes: $10.00

We do not charge for the following:

Vacation House checks.
Local background checks for government agencies
Incident or accident reports for government agencies

FAQ's:

Where is the police department located and what are the hours of operation? The police department is located on the corner of Buford Hwy. and Davenport Road, in Duluth, GA.  The address is 3276 Buford Highway, Duluth, GA. 30096.  The police department is staffed 24-hours a day 7-days a week, however, the reception window is only open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  There is a call-box located outside the front doors for after hours requests for assistance.

How can I get a copy of a police report? Reports can be obtained in person at the Public Safety Building, 3276 Buford Highway, Duluth, GA 30096. *We do not fax or email reports to the public, and they are not currently available online.

How do I file a police report? You can come into our building and pick up the phone located in the lobby which connects you directly to dispatch. Dispatch can then take your information and have an officer meet with you. You may also call us directly on our non-emergency line at (770) 476-4151 to have an officer meet with you at your location within the city limits.

What types of payment does the police department accept? The police department accepts cash, major credit cards, money orders and cashier's checks for payment of fines, traffic citations, requests for reports, fingerprints, criminal history checks, and open records requests.

Is there a cost for police reports? The cost for an accident report is $5.00; the cost for an incident report is $.10 per page.  If you are named on either of these types of reports, you are entitled to one free copy.

I received a citation from a City of Duluth Police Officer, how can I find out what my fine will be? Please contact the Duluth Municipal Court at (770) 622-2771. You may also view at www.ticketfastpay.com

I am an insurance agent, how can I obtain a copy of an accident report? Insurance companies can either come in person, or mail a written request to Duluth Police Department, Records Department, 3276 Buford Highway, Duluth, GA 30096.  Please include in your request the case number, insured information, date of occurence, a self-addressed envelope and a check for $5.00 payable to Duluth Police Department.

Is there a way to get an officer to check on my house while we are on vacation? Yes.  Please submit a "Vacation House Check" (VHC) form. Forms are located at the Records window of the Police Department, or one can be printed from this website and faxed to (678) 417-1857. You may also call us at (770) 476-4151.

What do I need to bring with me for a criminal history check?  Applicants need to bring a valid, government-issued photo ID.  The cost is $15.00 for the first copy, and $2.00 for each additional copy.  Criminal history checks are completed within minutes.

When will my police report/accident report be ready for pick it up?  It usually takes 5-10 business days for the report to be processed.  It is best to call (770) 623-2771 and see if the report is ready before you come to the police department.
