The Uniform Patrol Division is the largest division within the police department and is considered "the backbone" of the agency. It is headed by Captain Randy Geary, who has roughly 35 years of law enforcement service with the last 23 of those years right here in Duluth. The Uniform Patrol Division is tasked with being first responders and initial investigators on calls from citizens.
Currently, there are 35 officers who work 10 or 12-hour shifts patrolling our city. These officers are split into four shifts. They are on the streets 24-hours a day, 7 days a week answering a variety of calls to include traffic accidents, suspicious persons or activity, domestic disputes, runaway juveniles, thefts, robberies and many other emergency and non-emergency calls.
The goals of the Uniform Patrol Division include: the prevention and deterrence of crime by constant patrol and traffic enforcement, the apprehension of criminal suspects to ensure the safety of our civilian population, and responding to citizen calls for service and assistance. All calls are answered by one of our officers in the Uniform Patrol Division. We are always on duty and willing to help with any situation we can.
Included in the Uniform Division is the Special Operations Unit. Special Operations includes K-9, Motors, and DUI enforcement.
