Downtown Development Authority
The mission of the Duluth Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is to create and preserve a historic center of activity, commerce and community to encourage growth and vitality throughout Duluth. The Downtown is valued as the heart of our community and recognized as an economic and historic center where Duluth residents are able to live, work, play and shop. The City of Duluth will maintain its strong sense of community through the preservation, revitalization and redevelopment of Downtown.

The Duluth Downtown Development Authority (DDA) was formed to determine potential business and development/redevelopment opportunities for the Downtown area. In addition, the DDA strives to aid these potential opportunities through various funding initiatives. The DDA also reviews architectural and site plans for proposed development within the designated downtown area. Projects currently privately funded and recently completed include a mixed-use development by Mathias Corporation/Street Smarts consisting of 40,000 square feet of retail and office space with 20,000 square feet of underground parking. Another project on the horizon is the redevelopment of the “old City Hall block.” Plans for this project include a mixed use development with retail, office and residential space. Plans also include additional parking.
