Municipal Elections & Voter Registration

Absentee voting:

For the runoff election, registered voters may request and cast absentee ballots at City Hall now through November 30th either in person or by mail. Persons wishing to vote absentee must provide a reason why they cannot vote on the scheduled election date. In-person voters must show photo identification.  An application is available for download HERE and can be mailed in, faxed to 678-957-7280, or can be filled out in person and voted in the business office located at Duluth City Hall, 3167 Main Street, Duluth.  (Note that City Hall will be closed November 22nd and 23rd for Thanksgiving.)  All ballots must be received no later than 7pm on December 4th to be valid.

Advance voting:

Advance voting is provided as a convenience for citizens.  Voters may cast their ballots for Duluth's runoff election in advance during the week of November 26 through November 30. On those dates, ballots may be cast from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. in person, at the business office located at City Hall. Advanced voters also need to fill out an application for absentee ballot, however, Advance Voters need not provide a reason during this time.  Photo identification is required.

In the state of Georgia, you do not have to register by political party to vote in the state's regular primaries or general elections.  All voters must be registered a minimum of 30 days prior to the election in which they intend to vote.   For the runoff election, the original cutoff date of October 9th still applies.

ALL REGISTERED VOTERS SHALL PRESENT PROPER PHOTO IDENTIFICATION FOR ALL VOTING OPTIONS. Acceptable identification shall consist of any one of the following:

Voter ID requirements

NOTE: The “precinct card” you receive to confirm your voter registration and voting location is NOT a form of identification and it will not be sufficient identification to vote.

The Gwinnett County Voter Registration office (770.822.8787) processes all applications. Approximately 2 – 4 weeks after mailing your application, you should receive a precinct identification card that will list your political districts and polling location for City, County, State and National elections.  When voting in City (Municipal) elections, Duluth City Hall is the only polling precinct.  You will likely have a different voting precinct for any other elections.

To register to vote, you must be:

Once you are registered, you may also verify your National, State and Count precinct and polling location by visiting the Secretary of State Poll Locator.

All residents of the City of Duluth who are registered voters have the ability to elect the mayor and city council members, or to vote on special referendums that affect city taxpayers. Please note that simply having a Duluth mailing address does not necessarily entitle you to vote in Duluth municipal elections: Only residents within city limits are eligible. If you are unsure of your status, contact City Hall at 770.476.3434 for verification.
