Highest Score on the National Geography Challange
The Mayor and Council recognized Stuart Hench, a Duluth High School sophomore who was recently recognized by the Gwinnett County Board of Education for recording the highest score in the country during the National Geography Challenge. The National Geography Challenge exam is a competition sponsored each year by the National Council on Geographic Education (NCGE), which tests a student’s knowledge in both physical and human geography (culture, demographics, economics, and agriculture). Students who participate nationally are in grades 2 through 12. At Duluth High School, more than 70 students took the test after school. Stuart took the exam for the grades 7-9 and his score on the exam was the highest in the country. Teacher Jacquelyn Anderson and head of the social studies department Geri Flanary were also present.
