Monday, May 30th, 2011
Chattahoochee Elementary School – Thursday morning, May 26, 2011 Jr. Police – ADVANCE graduation day arrives for two hundred 5th Grade students at Chattahoochee Elementary School. The students have spent the past several weeks attending the Jr Police -ADVANCE course taught by the Duluth Police Community Policing Division officers. The Jr. Police – ADVANCE course teaches the students to Avoid Drugs Violence And Negative Choices Early. The course which brought officers into the classroom twice at week over a five week period, allows the officers to get to know the students and mentor while serving as educators.

Earlier this year, Duluth Police Lt Bill Stevens and Sgt Steve Daniels met with Chattahoochee Elementary Principal Jeff Lee and Counselor John Stith to set a new path for the revamped program. Police added a new look to the program by providing the purple “Jr Police” tee shirts for the 5th Grade students. Due to budget constraints throughout Gwinnett County, the Duluth Police Department and Chattahoochee Elementary School remains the only law enforcement agency and school partnering to continue the program. The program is highly regarded by teachers and parents alike!
